Witcher: Witcher fans will have to wait longer for the next game, here’s why

CD Projekt Red is going to hold the Witchercon, a digital event dedicated to its The Witcher games and the fantasy universe. The event will take place on July 9 this year and will be streamed live on YouTube and Twitch. It will focus on the making of the games, merchandise, and talks by experts on the lore, the monsters and other features of the world of The Continent.
Though fans expect some reveals and other interesting content in the event, the developer has already cleared the air regarding the next Witcher game announcement by saying that it won’t be happening.
For the nonce, the teams under the Polish video game developer are working on Cyberpunk 2077 content only and until that is finished, they won’t be starting on the next Witcher games. Since the video game studio is known for making immersive open world games, the news shouldn’t come as a surprise.
That they are not going to announce the game at the event does not mean they don’t have plans for it. The next game in the Witcher universe was confirmed last year. It would be the fourth game in The Witcher series but won’t be a direct sequel to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and won’t be called The Witcher 4. Would it be inspired from the books or would it be a prequel and based on what happened before the events of The first Witcher game that came out in 2007? It seems like fans will have to wait for a long time before any announcement regarding the next Witcher game is made by CD Projekt Red.
